'Somewhere In My Heart'
“Somewhere in My Heart” is a shimmering slice of 1980s pop brilliance by the Scottish band Aztec Camera, fronted by the prodigiously talented Roddy Frame. Released in April 1988 as the third single from their album Love, the track became the band’s biggest hit, reaching No. 3 on the UK Singles Chart. What makes the song so enduring is its juxtaposition of upbeat, jangly melodies with introspective, poetic lyrics. Frame’s writing is rich with metaphor—he sings of “a vision of love wearing boxing gloves,” capturing the tension between vulnerability and resilience. The chorus, with its soaring line “Somewhere in my heart, there is a star that shines for you,” radiates a kind of eternal optimism that’s both personal and universal. Produced by Michael Jonzun, the track blends pop-rock with a touch of sophisti-pop sheen .
